UUID Polyphony : Harmony of Avatars
a phonic installation


UUID Polyphony was a development from the DNA sculpture, in as much, that the numeric data of Avatar's key (UUID) is translated into another form. In this project sound represents the numbers.

The Installation is made up of several sound emitters, that also have the duty of passively scanning for the Avatar's key. This data is stored in the emitters 'memory', and then it randomly chooses from this memory bank

The Key is translated into a special 16 note scale, making a unique musical phrase that is associated to the Avatar.

Several emitters are spread about the space, choosing at random Avatar's musical phrases. These interweave to create a soundscape that is representative of a community rather than an individual.

The Sound emitted is a futurist choral / organ synthetic tone that is reminscent of Baroque Era, adding a serene soundscape to the background of Second Life.

The Work was created for Ars Virtua's 'Transposition'Exhibition, June 2006.
