The Close Up (CU) is good at revealing subtle gestures and facial expressions (particularly the eyes), which aids the audiences' identification and emotional link with the character, creating a more dramatic effect than what can be usually achieved by a Medium Shot. This is particularly important in Machinima character acting as subtle visual information can be lost when the subject is smaller in shot.
