Shot Composition - The Basics
Extreme Long Shot (ELS)

Here, the Extreme Long Shot (ELS) is good at showing how the subject interacts or is placed within the immediate setting, this is especially useful in large action or chase sequences.
It is interesting to note that in this example, the framing makes it hard to tell if the character is a male or female. It is important to consider visual clues (ie. costume) that signify a character when framing a subject that is small in shot, especially if they've not been established yet. (or perhaps not... keeping things secret to later can be an interesting twist in a stories development.)
